Betts Heading To World Series Of Bowling

BOSTON (CBS) -- Mookie Betts is heading to a World Series, just not one with the Boston Red Sox.

And in this one, he won't mind racking up the strikes either.

With Boston's season over the Sox outfielder will try a professional career in his other love: Bowling. The 22-year-old will head to Reno, Nevada in December and play in the PBA World Series of Bowling.

Betts was an accomplished bowler in High School when the winter months kept him from the diamond, averaging a 230 at John Overton High School in Tennessee. He was named the Tennessee boys Bowler of the Year in 2010, and still plays in leagues with family and friends over the offseason.

Betts explained his love for bowling to WBZ-TV's Dan Roche down in Fort Myers earlier this year.

"That's a family thing," Betts told Roche at spring training. "My mom, dad, aunts and uncles, we all go bowling in the offseason. It's a family thing that has stuck around, and I have it in my back pocket."

In his first full season with the Red Sox, Betts hit .291 with 18 home runs and a team-high 42 doubles.
