Mookie Betts Undergoes Successful Knee Surgery
BOSTON (CBS) -- Mookie Betts put together a great 2016 season, and there's a good chance he brings home the AL MVP award next week.
But his performance is even more impressive when you find out he did all of it while not being 100 percent healthy.
Betts had a successful right knee arthroscopy, chondroplasty and a loose body removal done on Thursday, the Red Sox announced on Friday. The procedure was performed by head team Orthopedist Dr. Peter Asnis at Massachusetts General Hospital.
The 24-year-old Betts is expected to make a full recovery and be ready for spring training (which gets underway on February 14 for the Red Sox).
Betts, who has already won a Gold Glove and Silver Slugger award this offseason, is one of three finalists for the AL MVP after batting .318 with 214 hits, 31 homers, 113 RBIs and 122 runs scored in 2016.
