Red Sox Hire Keith Foulke As Player Development Consultant

BOSTON (CBS) -- Another hero of the 2004 World Series championship team is rejoining the Red Sox organization.

Keith Foulke, who recorded the final out in Boston's first World Series title in 86 years back in 2004, is joining the organization as a player development consultant, the team announced on Thursday. In his new role, Foulke will be working with young pitchers in the Boston system.

Foulke played three seasons in Boston from 2004-2006, notching 47 saves while going 13-9 with a 3.73 ERA. He recorded 32 saves with a 2.17 ERA during the 2004 regular season, and allowed just one run over 14 innings pitched during Boston's postseason run, notching three saves and getting the win in Game 1 of the World Series against the St. Louis Cardinals.

He was on the mound for the final out in 2004, flipping a comebacker by Cardinals shortstop Edgar Renteria to first baseman Doug Mientkiewicz before hoisting catcher Jason Varitek into the air in celebration.

Foulke enjoyed an 11-year career in he majors, recording 191 saves with a 3.33 ERA for the Giants, White Sox, Athletics and Red Sox.
