Red Sox Fan Struck By Broken Bat Upgraded To Good Condition

BOSTON (CBS) -- The Red Sox fan struck by a flying baseball bat at Fenway Park has been upgraded from fair to good condition, a hospital spokeswoman said Thursday afternoon.

Tonya Carpenter suffered life-threatening injuries Friday night when she was struck by part of Oakland Athletics third baseman Brett Lawrie's broken bat. She has been recovering at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center.

Carpenter was sitting close to the field, and her injury has prompted discussion about fan safety at ballparks.

Her family has set up a GoFundMe page, where nearly $15,000 has been raised for her recovery so far.
