David Ortiz Will Be Honored At Yankee Stadium

BOSTON (CBS) -- Even the Red Sox' most fierce rivals will honor David Ortiz during his final season in baseball.

The New York Yankees announced Thursday that they will honor their longtime rival before his final game at Yankee Stadium on September 29.

Ortiz has long been a thorn in the Yankees' side, clubbing 52 homers against the club in 236 games. Ortiz's heroics were a big part in Boston coming back from a 3-0 series deficit against the Yanks in the 2004 ALCS, with walkoff hits in Games 4 and 5, as Boston beat the Yankees in seven games and went on to win the World Series.

In 14 career postseason games against New York, Ortiz has hit five homers with 17 RBIs.

The Red Sox currently hold a four game lead over the Yankees in the AL East (with the Orioles and Blue Jays between the two teams), with the two teams starting a four-game set at Fenway Park on Thursday.
