BOSTON (CBS) -- David Ortiz got a little too close to the umpire on Sunday, and will now have to sit out a game because of it.
The Red Sox DH was hit with a one-game suspension and an undisclosed fine on Tuesday, stemming from an incident in Sunday's loss to the Baltimore Orioles at Fenway Park.

Ortiz has appealed the suspension, and can play during that process.
In the fifth inning of Sunday's 8-3 loss to Baltimore, Ortiz took exception to a check-swing call by third base umpire Jerry Meals. He tossed his bat to the ground in protest, and was ejected by home plate umpire John Tumpane. Ortiz then got into it with Tumpane, bumping him in the process.
It was the 11th ejection of Ortiz's career.
The Red Sox open a three-game series with the Tampa Bay Rays at Tropicana Field on Tuesday.
