'Guest Editor' David Ortiz Graces Regional Cover Of Sports Illustrated

BOSTON (CBS) -- David Ortiz is adding another position to his resume, and another potential career after he retires from baseball at the end of the season.

The Red Sox slugger served as the guest editor of this week's Sports Illustrated, and is featured on the regional cover with the cover line "Designated Editor: Before He Retires Big Papi Takes Over SI." This marks the first time in the magazine's 62-year history that an issue has been guest-edited by an athlete.

With his guest editing duties, Ortiz was able to pick the stories he wanted told in the issue. Features include Celtics' free agent addition Al Horford as a way to explore the brotherhood of Dominican athletes, an exploration into Patriots headquarters, and a remembrance of Jose Fernandez, who was killed in a tragic boat accident over the weekend.

Sports Illustrated senior writer Tim Verducci also pens "The Big Interview" with Ortiz, with topics ranging from Ortiz not shying away from tough questions about PEDs, his proudest accomplishments and his biggest disappointments.

The issue hits newsstands September 29th.
