Red Sox Call Up Star Prospect Mookie Betts

BOSTON (CBS) - After an explosive couple of months in the minor leagues, the Boston Red Sox have called up one of their top prospects from Pawtucket.

Mookie Betts could make his MLB debut Saturday in New York. The Boston Herald's John Tomase was first to report the move. No corresponding roster move has been reported.

Betts, 21, started the year in AA Portland before being called up to AAA Pawtucket.

He was named the Red Sox organization's Minor League Offensive Player of the Year in 2013.

In 77 games this year in the minors, he has hit .345 with eight homers, 70 runs, 48 RBIs and 29 stolen bases.

Betts has played second base and outfield this year.

He was a fifth round pick by the Red Sox in 2011.
