Red Sox Activate Koji Uehara From Disabled List; Will Be Available Tuesday
BOSTON (CBS) -- The Red Sox on Monday reinstated reliever Koji Uehara from the 15-day disabled list. The Red Sox made the move official in an announcement Monday morning.
Uehara will re-join the Red Sox for their series in San Diego and will be available to pitch starting Tuesday. The 41-year-old had been recovering from a strained pectoral muscle suffered on July 19 and had been pitching well as a fill-in closer in July, with four saves and a 2.70 ERA before going down.
"This has the chance and the potential to be a viable and an important addition to the bullpen late in games," manager John Farrell said about Uehara's impending activation.

Red Sox relievers struggled mightily in August without Uehara, who figures to have an opportunity to grab the eighth inning setup role behind closer Craig Kimbrel. Uehara is 2-3 with a 4.50 ERA and 51 strikeouts in 36 innings in 2016.
The Red Sox also announced that they have recalled catcher Christian Vazquez and pitchers Heath Hembree and Noe Ramirez from Triple-A Pawtucket.
