READING (CBS) -- An elderly man was struck and killed by a plow Monday.

Jacob Goldberg, 89, of Reading, was killed in a collision with a Town of Reading sidewalk plow Monday afternoon at the intersection of Lowell and Bond Streets.

Reading Police responded around 3:15 p.m. and found Goldberg injured. He was taken to Lahey Clinic in Burlington, where he was pronounced dead.

"In the winter months the presence of snow and ice can be dangerous and cause numerous safety concerns," said Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan. "This is a terrible tragedy and my thoughts are with the victim's family at this time."

The operator of the sidewalk cleaner remained at the scene after the collision.

The incident is still under investigation.
