Ray Bourque Takes 'Full Responsibility' Following Drunk Driving Charge

LAWRENCE (CBS/AP) — Former Boston Bruins star Ray Bourque has acknowledged there is enough evidence to find him guilty of drunk driving.

Bourque appeared in Lawrence District Court Wednesday where a judge imposed a 225-day suspension of his driver's license and one year of probation.

Bourque pleaded not guilty last week to operating under the influence of alcohol after his Mercedes-Benz rear-ended a minivan in Andover on June 24. No one was hurt.

In court on Wednesday, Bourque's attorney Gerard LaFlamme told the judge his client looked him in the eye and said, " I made a mistake, I had a lapse in judgement."

Police said Bourque had a blood-alcohol level of 0.249, three times the state's legal limit to drive.

"It takes a man with a lot of integrity to come forth to this court in the face of all this press, stand up, and do the right thing, that's not don't very often," LaFlamme said in court.

"I take full responsibility for my actions and I will not seek nor take any short cuts," Bourque said in a written statement following his court appearance. "I know that I have let my family, friends, fans, the community and myself down. I apologize to all of you."
