Race To Honor Longmeadow Pilot Killed In Crash

HOLYOKE, Mass. (AP) — A cross country run to benefit the family of a Massachusetts Air National Guard pilot who was killed when his jet crashed in Virginia over the summer is scheduled for this weekend.

The 4.25-mile Rally for Moose race is planned for Sunday at the Ashley Reservoir in Holyoke.

Proceeds will benefit the wife and two daughters of Lt. Col. Morris "Moose" Fontenot Jr.

The 41-year-old Longmeadow resident died Aug. 27 when his F-15C jet crashed near Deerfield Valley, Virginia. He was flying to New Orleans for a radar upgrade.

He was a decorated combat veteran, a graduate of the U.S. Air Force Academy and an instructor pilot in the 104th Fighter Wing at Barnes Air National Guard Base in Westfield.
