Quincy Marina Fire Sinks Several Boats, Damages Others

QUINCY (CBS) -- A fire at a Quincy marina Thursday morning sunk several boats and caused massive damage to others.

Five boats and part of the dock at Captain's Cove Marina were initially engulfed when the fire was reported at 7:45 a.m., Quincy police said. Black smoke was spotted billowing over the scene from miles away.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but officials say it was sparked by an explosion. No injuries were reported.

Quincy police said three or four boats sank, and eight or nine have massive damage.

One couple had just made their new home in one of the boats that was destroyed.

"We just sold everything to do this," Tamara Silvia said. "We have nothing left now."

A fire boat from Boston helped to battle the blaze while Quincy firefighters aimed their hoses from shore.

Quincy marine units towed other nearby boats to safety as the fire raged.
