Quick-Thinking Neighbors Help Rescue Boy After Fall Down Leominster River Embankment

LEOMINSTER (CBS) – Some quick-thinking neighbors came to the rescue of a 4-year-old boy after a scary tumble down a steep embankment overlooking a river.

The boy had fallen about 40 feet down the embankment but managed to hold onto the snow to keep from sliding further.

Firefighters arrived at the Second Street location to rescue the boy but they credited the ingenuity of a neighbor who arrived on the scene first.

"One of the neighbors had thrown over an extension cord for the child to grab onto, so the child was dangling by the extension cord,"  said Leominster Fire Department Deputy Chief Jeffrey Davis.

Davis said firefighters then used rope rescue techniques to reach the boy and bring him up to safety.

The boy did not suffer any injuries but he was taken to a hospital to be checked out and it was determined he was OK.
