Small Plane Makes Emergency Landing On Quabbin Reservoir Sandbar

NEW SALEM (CBS) – A small plane was forced to make an emergency landing Tuesday afternoon on a sandbar at the Quabbin Reservoir.

According to the FAA, the experimental Seawind CCK 1865 landed on a sandbar at 3:50 p.m.

The pilot, a 42-year-old man from Newport, RI, experienced engine problems. Police said the private plane was intact and upright on its wheels.

There are no reports of any environmental concerns to the reservoir which provides drinking water for more than two million people in Massachusetts.

The investigation is ongoing and State Police are making plans to remove the plane.
