Police Recover Puppy Stolen From N.H. Pet Store

PORTSMOUTH, New Hampshire (CBS) -- A puppy that was stolen from a Lafayette Road pet shop was recovered by police Tuesday.

Amesbury Police called the Little Shop of Pets Tuesday to say they had recovered the tiny two-pound, cream-colored chihuahua puppy.

They said a young woman in Amesbury stole the puppy from the store.

She has not yet been charged, but could possibly face a larceny charge in New Hampshire and a receiving stolen property charge in Massachusetts, where she lives.

Police said at least two separate people who saw the puppy's pictures recognized her as the person who stole it.

The puppy was taken to the Merrimac Valley Animal Hospital for precautionary reasons, where it is reportedly in good health, eating and being playful.

It wasn't the first time a pet has been stolen from the store--but workers were worried about this pup in particular, since it required a special diet.

The dog, who has a microchip implanted in his body that allowed police to determine that it was the dog they were looking for, would have been a $900 loss for the store.
