'Puppy Mill' Dog Nelson Ready For Adoption

BOSTON (CBS) - A dog that arrived in Massachusetts very sick from a Missouri puppy mill is getting better and will be ready for adoption soon.

Alyssa Krieger at the Boston Adoption Center at Angell Memorial Hospital says Nelson is much better after surgery and foster care.

Krieger says they have had more than 1,000 inquiries about Nelson and they will soon be going through applications for his adoption.

Krieger says he's a Shar-Pei-Pug through and through.

WBZ NewsRadio 1030's Lana Jones reports

"He is a funny little guy he is pretty aloof, he's very independent he is kind of cat-like," Krieger says. "He wants attention but really on his terms. He just kind of does his own thing."

The MSPCA is warning consumers about buying puppies online. They encourage people to inspect breeders' properties to see firsthand how the animals are treated before buying them.
