Coast Guard Searching For Woman Who Fell Overboard From Rhode Island Ferry

PORTSMOUTH, R.I. (CBS) – The Coast Guard has suspended a search for a woman who fell overboard from a ferry in Rhode Island Monday night.

Several passengers saw the woman fall into the water Monday night.

The woman was a passenger on the Prudence Island ferry in Mount Hope Bay.

She is a 39-year-old from Prudence Island.

According to witnesses, it appears the woman intentionally climbed the deck rail and jumped into the water.

High winds made search efforts more difficult for crews.

Rescuers said the water temperatures are currently "hypothermic," and it is not known if the woman was wearing a life jacket.

The search was called off Tuesday morning.
