Phantom Gourmet: The Perfect Prime Rib

BOSTON (CBS) – For meat eaters, sometimes nothing hits the spot like a big plate of prime rib.

Phantom checked out four restaurants that serve some of the best prime rib in New England.

At Butch's Uptown in Haverhill the kitchen serves up big portions of Italian comfort food and juicy cuts of prime rib.

Originally the restaurant only served the prime rib on weekends, but because it was so popular that it was added to the daily menu.

The butch cut is 32 ounces and it's huge. Customers are often surprised at the size of the butch cut when it arrives at their table.

The Bull Run in Shirley is a 200-year-old tavern. Their slow-roasted, sliced to order prime rib has been a customer favorite for decades.

Chefs haven't changed how they prepare it in the last 70 years.

Weekends at the Winthrop Arms Restaurant in Winthrop you'll see a lot of tables practically tipping over thanks to the signature plate of prime rib that's slow cooked and seasoned perfectly.

Another great spot for big side of beef is New England Steak and Seafood in Mendon.

And Phantom recommends ordering it "blackened" so the outside is extra crispy and the inside is completely tender.

For more food and fun watch the Phantom Gourmet Saturday and Sunday at 10:30 and 11 on MyTV38.
