Primaries Held For Seats Vacated By Walsh, Clark

BOSTON (AP) — Voters are going to the polls to fill several legislative vacancies, including the seats formerly held by Boston Mayor Martin Walsh and U.S. Rep. Katherine Clark.

Five Democrats, Liam Curran, Gene Gorman, Daniel Hunt, Paul McCann and John O'Toole, are vying in Tuesday's primary to fill Walsh's former House seat in the 13th Suffolk District. There are no Republicans on the ballot.

A primary is also being held for the state Senate seat formerly held by Katherine Clark, who won a special election to succeed Edward Markey in the U.S. House after Markey was elected to the U.S. Senate.

The Democratic candidates are state Reps. Christopher Fallon of Malden and Jason Lewis of Winchester, and Anthony Guardia of Wakefield.

The sole Republican on the ballot is Monica Medeiros of Melrose.

The special election is April 1.
