Powerball Jackpot Spikes Over $500 Million

BOSTON (CBS) – The prize continues to skyrocket for one of the largest lottery drawings in U.S. history.

Massachusetts Lottery announced that the jackpot for Wednesday night's Powerball drawing is now estimated at more than $500 million. The cash prize on that amount is estimated at around $337 million.

Lottery officials said the drawing is now the third-largest ever.

The Powerball jackpot was last won in November 2014. It has now been 20 straight drawings without a top prize winner.

Tickets for the drawing cost $2 and will be sold until 9:45 p.m. on Wednesday at stores across the state. In total, there are 7,500 lottery vendors in Massachusetts.

The drawing takes place every Wednesday and Saturday at 10:59 p.m.

Powerball tickets are also sold in 43 other states, Washington, D.C., Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
