Police Searching For Person Pointing Laser Lights At Boston Planes

BOSTON (CBS) --- It could be a dangerous game, someone pointing green laser lights at aircraft.

It happened twice in the northeast Tuesday night, the FAA reporting someone pointed at a Delta flight heading out of Logan airport about 8:30 p.m. Fifteen minutes later, a Jetblue flight heading into Logan airport, and flying just north of Providence, also reported a laser strike. Flight instructor Dave Bashy says even seconds can be overwhelming.

"Much of the flying we teach is based on visual references to outside on the horizon. If you lose that it could disorient you briefly," he said.

Newton police say one of the strikes was traced to Forte Park off California Street. They searched the area but found nothing. Just a few hours earlier in a neighborhood about four miles from the park, police say a driver claimed someone pointed a laser at him.

"He noticed a person standing on the street. The person was holding something that emitted a green laser type of light shining it at his face and eyes. He says it was dazzling to his eyes," said Newton police Lt. Bruce Apotheker.

Police say the driver described the man as being Hispanic in his early twenties and wearing an orange jacket. They are urging anyone with information to contact police.
