Police Identify Woman Killed In Dorchester Shooting

BOSTON (AP/CBS) — Boston police have released the name of the woman found shot to death in a car earlier this week, and now say they do not think she was targeted.

Police on Thursday say the woman killed in the city's Dorchester neighborhood on Monday night was 24-year-old Alicia Restrepo.

She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The shooting occurred in a residential neighborhood with a preschool nearby. Police do not think she was the intended target.

Restrepo's high school teacher and basketball coach, Claudette Duran, described her as selfless. "An amazing person to know and have in your corner," Duran said.

Restrepo was the city's eighth homicide victim in less than two weeks.

Duran says she wants to see change in Boston's streets. "I think when you focus on the numbers, people become in a way numb to the violence that's happening in and around Boston, but the only way that change is going to happen is if we focus on the person, on the victim," Duran said.

There have been no arrests and police are asking anyone with information about the death to contact them.
