Police: NH Man Assaults, Seriously Injures Infant Son

NEWMARKET, N.H. (CBS) - A New Hampshire man is facing assault charges after he seriously injured his infant son by punching him, police say.

Investigators said the boy was taken to Exeter Hospital on Saturday after suffering a seizure. The 3-month-old was then transferred to Boston Children's Hospital.

On Tuesday, Newmarket police received a call about a possible child abuse victim that was being treated at the Boston hospital.

The boy suffered a skull fracture under suspicious circumstances, police say.

Investigators went to the hospital to collect evidence and information on Wednesday.

The child had suffered serious injuries including 17 broken bones.

Jose Orta-Santana, 25, of Newmarket, has been charged with single counts of first-and-second degree assault.

Orta-Santana was arraigned Thursday at a Brentwood court. He was held on $100,000 bail.

Court officials said Orta-Santana was not represented by a lawyer.
