Police: Man Carrying $7,000 Cash Evades $2.10 MBTA Fare

BOSTON (CBS) – Transit police said a man was arrested after evading his MBTA fare despite having nearly $7,000 on him.

Thursday just after 2 p.m. Transit police officers were monitoring gates at the Back Bay station when they saw Timothy Chapman of Woburn allegedly evade fare by "piggybacking" behind another passenger who had just paid.

Police planned on giving Chapman a citation, but discovered a warrant was out for his arrest for motor vehicle violations through Concord District Court.

Chapman was arrested on the outstanding warrant.

When police searched him, they found that Chapman had nearly $7,000 cash on him.

"Yes that's correct, he evaded a  $2.10 fare while in possession of nearly 7 thousand dollars and had a warrant for his arrest. Hmmmmmmm," Transit police posted about the incident.
