8-Year-Old Boy Dies In Hyannis Shed Fire

HYANNIS (CBS) – An eight year old Hyannis boy died after the shed he was playing in caught on fire Monday afternoon.

State Police detectives and the Fire Marshal's office are investigating the cause of the fire behind the home on Hinckley Road.

Witnesses say children were playing inside the shed when the fire was started. The boy's mother was inside the house at the time.

Witnesses reported hearing two loud explosions. Neighbors rushed to the shed to try and help.

"As soon as we got to about 15 feet there was another explosion," neighbor John Aguiar said. "It was so intense. It just kept getting hotter and hotter."

The fire is not considered suspicious. Fire investigators say it is unclear what was kept in the shed. "Most likely as we say it's just a very tragic accident," State Fire Marshal Stephen Coan said.

The child's identity has not been released. The other children who were playing in the shed are being questioned.
