Police Investigate Crime Spree After Carjacking In Hyde Park

BOSTON (CBS) - Police in Brookline and Milton are investigating a series of purse snatchings they believe are connected. It started with a carjacking Tuesday morning in Hyde Park.

Jarry Olanrewaju had just parked in front of his apartment coming home from the night shift when he was approached by two men who had been watching him exit his vehicle. "They grabbed me right here," he said holding onto his wrist.

One of the men had pulled out a knife. "Within a few seconds he tried to stab me. This is risky and I tried to push them away."

He then ran and fell so hard he hurt his knee cap which is now bandaged. In the struggle he lost his car keys and the suspects were able to grab them and make off with his vehicle. He had no idea his car ended up on Risley Road in Brookline Wednesday morning as part of a crime spree.

Police say a woman was walking when she was approached from behind, a man grabbed her purse, jumped into a car and sped of with another individual. She had the presence of mind to grab the license plate on the silver 2007 Toyota Corolla which is 458ZL3.

"She had to be focused and know what she was doing. She did a great job," said neighbor Liz McCarthy. Police believe the same car was involved in two similar purse snatchings in Milton Thursday morning in the areas of Valley Rd., Central Ave., and Eliot St. The victims were also out walking.

Jarry Olanrewaju wonders where his car will be seen next, but feels fortunate he was able to get away. "My life is more important to me than money, cars, property or whatever."
