Police Identify Man Killed In Route 24 Crash In Stoughton
STOUGHTON (CBS) -- State Police have identified the passenger fatally struck by several vehicles after being ejected in a Route 24 crash in Stoughton as 21-year-old Fabricio Tavares of Brockton.
Massachusetts State Police say troopers responded to a report of a pedestrian struck on the northbound side of the road near Exit 20 shortly after 3 a.m. on Sunday.
A 1999 Acura was heading north in the left travel lane, when it swerved to the right, hitting a rock ledge, and the impact led to the ejection, police say.
Tavares was then hit by six vehicles. He was rushed to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Police say Danielson Dacostatavares, 20, of Brockton, was driving the Acura at the time of the crash. He was injured and taken to Good Samaritan Medical Center in Brockton.
He is facing multiple charges including motor vehicle homicide by negligent operation, operating under the influence of liquor, and a marked lanes violation.
All of the passengers in the other vehicles were not hurt, police say, but one of the drivers was injured and taken to Good Samaritan Medical Center. The extent of his injuries and condition are currently unknown.
The northbound lanes were shut down for several hours before reopening just before 9 a.m. Sunday.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
