Police Find Car, Still Searching For Driver In Deadly Lowell Hit & Run

LOWELL, Mass. (AP) — Police have identified the victim in a fatal Lowell hit-and-run, and seized the vehicle that allegedly struck the man, but have not yet made an arrest.

Authorities say 86-year-old Elmer Mortensen was struck just before 11 p.m. Wednesday while crossing Westford Street.

A witness said the heavily damaged car then sped away.

Lowell police seized the vehicle, a blue Volkswagen GTI hatchback, and identified the owner, but as of Thursday night had not found the person suspected of driving the car at the time of the accident.
