Police Dive Into 'Frigid' Stoneham Pond To Rescue Dorchester Man

STONEHAM (CBS) – Two police officers plunged into a Stoneham pond this week to help rescue a Dorchester man who jumped from a ledge in the area.

According to Massachusetts State Police, on Friday night a "be on the lookout" was issued for a man who was walking towards Spot Pond in Stoneham.

Trooper Nicholas Pak and Stoneham police officer John Curtis were searching a wooded area near Spot Pond when they saw a man standing on a ledge next to the water.

When officers approached the man, he jumped into the water that police described as "frigid."

Pak and Curtis both jumped into the water as well, and continued to follow the man as he tried to move towards deeper water.

A struggle ensued until police were able to pull the 52-year-old Dorchester man out of the water. He was transported to Melrose/Wakefield Hospital for treatment.
