Police Charge Man In New Bedford Murder

NEW BEDFORD (CBS) – New Bedford Police are investigating the murder of a 22-year-old resident.

The victim, Alex Silva, was rushed to St. Luke's Hospital in New Bedford Thursday night but succumbed to his injuries, according to the Bristol County District Attorney's Office.

At around 6:45 p.m., Silva walked into New Bedford Police's South End station with a stab wound, according to police. Silva was rushed to the hospital and then flown by helicopter to Rhode Island Hospital due to the severity of his injuries. He died early Friday morning at the Rhode Island facility.

Police have charged Marco Shane Ramos, 25, of New Bedfor, with assault and battery with a dangerous weapons causing serious bodily injury and armed robbery. He is not facing murder charges at the moment.

Ramos is being held without bail and is set to appear in New Bedford District Court on Monday.

Police are continuing to investigate the incident.
