Police: 3 Men Had $1M In Heroin In Everett

WOBURN (CBS) - Three men charged with being in possession of about $1 million worth of heroin were arraigned Friday in Malden District Court, police say.

Everett and State Police officers arrested Felix Valerio-Rodriguez, 27, Jose Fernandez Del Rosario, 23, and Manuel Gutierrez-Cunillera, 27, around noon on Thursday.

The trio is facing several charges including conspiracy to violate the drug laws and trafficking in heroin of more than 200 grams.

In a suitcase, officers found 18 bricks (14 kilos) of heroin, Middlesex District Attorney Marian Ryan said in a statement.

Police also seized two vehicles.

A judge ordered them held on $1 million cash bail. If the men post bail, they must surrender their passports, stay in Massachusetts unless given court approval and be monitored using GPS.

"We see these arrests as having a two fold effect: this massive amount of heroin will not make it onto the street for illicit use and those who had allegedly planned to profit from people in the throes of addiction will be held accountable," Ryan said.

The men will appear in court again on April 17.
