Man Wounded In Plymouth Police Shootout Held Without Bail
PLYMOUTH (CBS) – A man shot and wounded by Plymouth Police was arraigned in his hospital bed Friday afternoon.
Investigators said 36-year-old Michael Walsh was rushed to the hospital Thursday evening after he exchanged gunfire with officers at his home on Federal Furnace Road.
Police said they were called to the house after Walsh got into an argument with his wife and fired several shots at her car. She was able to drive away and get help.
When officers arrived they say Walsh came outside and started shooting at them. They fired back and hit him three times. Walsh spent the night at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston and is expected to survive. On Friday, he pleaded not guilty to several charges including Aggravated Assault to Murder. He is being held without bail.
Walsh's wife said he suffered a traumatic brain injury as a police officer in South Carolina, so he retired and moved to Plymouth.
No officers were wounded but seven went to the hospital as a precaution.
Neighbors were stunned by what happened.
"It was very scary because I didn't know if they were on the run. So I ran around and locked all the doors. I was a little nervous," one woman told WBZ-TV Friday.
Bullet holes were left behind in a truck and home in the neighborhood.
A neighbor told WBZ-TV Walsh moved in about five or six weeks ago and police had been to the house several times.
