Pickup truck crashes through home's garage door in Pembroke, Massachusetts

Driver taken to hospital after crashing pickup truck into home's garage in Pembroke

A homeowner in Pembroke, Massachusetts awoke early Sunday to find a pickup truck crashed through his garage door.

It happened at a home on Dwelly Street at around 3:30 a.m. Police said the black Dodge pickup truck was lodged into the home's garage door when they arrived on scene.

Homeowner Robert Sideropoulos said he and his family were inside and asleep at the time when he heard a loud bang and the house shook.

"You know when you have a construction site and you hear those big booms from the bulldozers?" said Sideropoulos, who first thought it was an earthquake that shook his house.

"I ran outside, there was a car through the garage, the occupant was sitting down here crying, saying, 'I'm sorry, I'm sorry.' He might have fell asleep and by the time he hit a mailbox across the street and maybe that woke him up and he lost control," said the homeowner. "I made sure he was OK, he was fine, bleeding a little from the mouth."

It appears the driver first struck a mailbox across the street, then tire marks from there on the road lead right into Sideropoulos' garage.

"The truck was pretty much three-quarters of the way into the garage. The other car that we have was in there, got hit hard and got pushed into the other corner of the garage," said Sideropoulos.

The Pembroke Fire Department said the driver was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. No one in the home was injured.

"You get woken up and that's the last thing you expect to see is a truck in your house," said Sideropoulos.

The crash is under investigation by Pembroke Police and it's unclear if the driver will face any charges.

Pembroke is located in Plymouth County about 28 miles south of Boston.
