Massachusetts Residents Warned Of New Phone Scam

BOSTON (CBS) – State police are making Massachusetts residents aware of the latest phone scam that mentions the IRS.

The scammer reportedly calls themselves an "officer" of the IRS or another agency and says an arrest warrant "has been issued under your name."

Police say the caller will try to get personal or financial information, and may ask for a call back.

"Please note that this is a complete fraud," police wrote. "No law enforcement agency or any other agency or third-party would call someone to tell them that an arrest warrant has issued."

One of the phone numbers associated with the scam is 424-293-7615, but police say it could come from any number.

Residents are urged to hang up on any suspected scam calls.
