Phantom Gourmet: Sweet Summer Treats

BOSTON (CBS) - Dan Andelman of the Phantom Gourmet found some sweet treats that can help cool you down this summer.

As far as treats go, it doesn't get much cooler than Snowdaes in Lowell, where they a serve a hybrid between ice cream and shaved ice. It's made with a combination of milk, water, and real fruit juice in flavors like mango, watermelon, and honey dew.

When it comes to selection, it's tough to beat Daddy's Dairy in Brockton, Randolph, and Stoughton. They offer eighty flavors of ice cream and over 200 types of soft serve. They also specialize in custom-made ice cream cakes, and nostalgic homemade chocolate chip cookie sandwiches.

Delekta in Warren, Rhode Island is a classic working pharmacy that also sells an Ocean State specialty called the Coffee Cabinet. It's like a rich and creamy shake made with a highly concentrated, homemade coffee syrup, blended with ice cream and milk.

New England is actually one of top region's in the country in terms of ice cream consumption and after the winter we had this year we all deserve a bit of a treat.

For more food and fun, watch the Phantom Gourmet Saturday and Sunday at 10:30 and 11 on MyTV38.
