Phantom Gourmet: New England Pizzerias

BOSTON (CBS) -- Coal firing is literally the hottest trend in pizza currently.

In 1943, deep dish pizza was invented at Pizzeria Uno in Chicago. Today, it's a Boston-based company with over 140 restaurants across the globe.

At Rock 'n Coal in Bellingham, the state-of-the-art rotating oven produces pies with a crispy, thin, and well done crust. The toppings range from traditional pepperoni to spicy buffalo chicken with blue cheese.

Slab Restaurant in Portland, Maine is one of the only restaurants in America that serves authentic, Sicilian-style pizza, featuring artisan dough mixed by hand.

The handmade pizza contains high quality ingredients. It offers a different taste that cannot be easily duplicated.
