48 People Rescued From Cannon Mountain Tram

FRANCONIA, NH (CBS) – Crews rescued 48 people from two tram cars at Cannon Mountain on Sunday afternoon.

The Cannon Mountain Aerial Tramway was stuck with 41 people in the car going up the mountain, and seven people were in the car near the top of the mountain going down.

The cars stopped roughly 50-75 feet from the top and bottom terminals.

Cannon tells WBZ that everyone was safely evacuated from both cars.

The people who were stuck had to rappel through a hatch in the bottom of the tram.

The mountain says a mechanical issue caused the braking system to become engaged.

No injuries were reported.

The mountain expects the tram to reopen Monday morning.
