Penguins' Sidney Crosby Scratched Just Before Start Of Bruins Game

PITTSBURGH (CBS) – The Bruins had one less weapon to worry about stopping as they took the ice against the Pittsburgh Penguins on Saturday.

Penguins star Sidney Crosby took the ice for warmups on Saturday at Consol Energy Center. But according to the NHL, he determined he could not play and was a late scratch for the game.

Puck drop was delayed briefly as referees met to discuss the situation.

Crosby was originally in the Pittsburgh starting lineup, but just before the start of the game he was replaced by Craig Adams.

The league said there was no violation in the late lineup change because it occurred due to injury and was approved by officials.

"Since Crosby was in the previously submitted starting lineup, this change had to be made accrdoing to Rule 7.1 which states that changes to the starting lineup must be reviewed and approved by the referee prior to the start of the game. Proper procedure was followed by the Penguins and Adams is now in the game," the league said.

The Bruins took a 1-0 lead into the first intermission after a goal by forward Milan Lucic.
