Pence Appearing At R.I. Fundraiser Amid Latest Trump Controversy

NEWPORT, R.I. (AP) — Donald Trump's vice presidential candidate is scheduled to appear at a Rhode Island fundraiser as the campaign is embroiled in controversy over lewd remarks Trump made about women in 2005.

The Providence Journal reports Indiana Governor Mike Pence will attend a Saturday evening fundraiser at Miramar, the Newport mansion owned by retired Goldman Sachs partner David B. Ford.

Tickets start at $1,000 per person and proceeds go to the "Trump Victory" fundraising committee. Earlier Saturday, Pence cancelled an appearance at a rally with U.S. House Speaker Paul Ryan in Wisconsin.

Ahead of the Rhode Island event, some prominent state Republicans criticized Trump's comments, which were caught on a video Friday. State GOP Chairman Brandon Bell, one of the fundraiser hosts, called the comments "inexcusable and demoralizing to women."
