Family Of Paul Wilson, Man Beaten To Death In Cambridge Park, Offers $10,000 Reward

CAMBRIDGE (CBS) – The family of a man found beaten to death in a Cambridge park is desperate for answers and now offering a $10,000 reward for information that leads to Paul Wilson's killer. "Why him, why?" asked his sister Elizabeth Dobbins who has been haunted by the question for nearly two years.

"The trauma of losing my brother to a homicide where there's a third person involved who I don't know and who didn't know my brother who was the nicest guy in the world," said Dobbins.

Since January 2, 2019 investigators are no closer to identifying the murderer in a crime they believe was random with no murder weapon ever found. "We think enough time has passed now that there's information out there. We want to try and get it because we don't want too much time to pass that people forget about it," said Wilson's brother-in-law Ephraim Dobbins.

Investigators say Wilson was walking through Danehy Park on the cold night that was just steps from his Cambridge home, likely picking up takeout dinner. At six feet, six inches tall he was an imposing presence with a larger than life personality, which makes it all the more confounding for his family.

"There's no motivation at all which is frustrating. It's almost unimaginable how it could have happened," said Ephraim Dobbins.

Add to that the location, his body discovered on a well lit pathway near a parking lot just before 7:00 p.m. Middlesex County District Attorney Marian Ryan hopes the reward provides a much needed break in the case. "The public doesn't know what that little piece is," Ryan said. "They may have seen or heard something that may seem insignificant, but given everything else we have is the last piece of the puzzle."

For his family it would provide some desperately needed answers. "In my heart I don't understand it, I don't know what that motivation is," said Elizabeth Dobbins.

Wilson's death is one of 11 unsolved murders in Cambridge since 1999.

The family says anyone can come forward privately and confidentially. Anyone with information about the case can contact Massachusetts State Police assigned to the Middlesex District Attorney's Office at (781) 897-6600 or Cambridge Police at 617-349-3121.
