Patriots Place WR Brandon Gibson On Injured Reserve

BOSTON (CBS) -- Brandon Gibson's first season in New England is over before it really started.

The six-year veteran was placed on injured reserve on Monday after suffering a knee injury in Saturday's preseason win over the New Orleans Saints. Gibson limped off the field late in the fourth quarter after hauling in a team-high eight receptions for 68 yards.

The 28-year-old Gibson was signed as a free agent in the offseason after spending the last two seasons with the Miami Dolphins. A sixth-round pick in 2009 by the Philadelphia Eagles, Gibson registered 233 receptions for 2,711 yards and 13 touchdowns in 76 career games. He played in 14 games last season, including five starts, and caught 29 passes for 295 yards and one touchdown.

It's another blow to New England's depth chart at receiver, with Julian Edelman, Brandon LaFell and Aaron Dobson all currently sidelined. The Patriots reportedly signed veteran wide receiver Reggie Wayne on Monday, but no official announcement has been made.

The Patriots also announced the re-signing of rookie linebacker D.J. Lynch on Monday.
