Danny Amendola Reportedly Undergoes Offseason Knee, Ankle Surgery

BOSTON (CBS) -- We're still a few months away from the start of training camp, but the injury concerns are starting to mount for the Patriots' wide receiving corps.

First there was news last week that Julian Edelman underwent another foot surgery, a procedure to clean up the injury that cost him the final seven weeks of the 2015 regular season. He's expected to be OK for the start of training camp, but there are always concerns when it comes to a player of Edelman's skill set when a foot injury is involved.

Now there's news that Edelman's partner in crime, receiver Danny Amendola, is still recovering from a pair of offseason surgeries, according to The Boston Herald's Jeff Howe.

Howe later said that both surgeries happened after the playoffs. There remains hope that Amendola will be ready to go for training camp, but it's too early to know if he'll be ready for game action come Week 1 of the regular season.

Howe notes that the ankle surgery was for a bone spur and is not expected to be an issue going forward. But the knee surgery was to clean up an issue that Amendola was dealing with late into the 2015 season, and one he is still rehabbing with camp just over two months away. He suffered a knee injury against Buffalo in Week 11 and missed New England's Week 12 loss at Denver and a Week 16 loss at the New York Jets.

Amendola was third on the Patriots with 87 targets in 2015, hauling in 65 receptions for 684 yards and three touchdowns. He recently took a pay cut that will save the Patriots $4 million on the salary cap next season.
