Patriots' Chris Jones Named AFC Special Teams Player Of The Week
BOSTON (CBS) -- After blocking a potential game-winning field goal by the New York Jets as time expired on Thursday night, Patriots defensive lineman Chris Jones has been named the AFC Special Teams Player of the Week.
Jones blocked a 58-yard field goal attempt Jets kicker Nick Folk on the final play of the game to preserve New England's 27-25 win last Thursday night at Gillette Stadium. This marks the first time in Jones' career that he has received an AFC Player of the Week honor.
In addition to his big contribution on special teams, Jones also finished the game with three tackles and two quarterback hits.
This is the second AFC Player of the Week honor for the Patriots in 2014. Chandler Jones was named AFC Defensive Player of the Week for his performance in the win at Minnesota on Sept. 14, 2014. It's the first AFC Special Teams Player of the Week honor for the Patriots since Week 7 of the 2012 season, when Devin McCourty earned the award for returning a kick 104 yards for a touchdown vs. the New York Jets on Oct. 21, 2012.
