Belichick, Kraft Issued 'Ice Bucket Challenge' By Giants Owner

BOSTON (CBS) -- The "Ice Bucket Challenge" may soon hit the upper offices of Gillette Stadium.

Patriots head coach Bill Belichick and owner Robert Kraft have been issued the challenged by New York Giants president John Mara, who took the challenge himself on Monday afternoon.

Mara dedicated his challenge to former Boston College assistant athletics director Dick Kelley, who lost his battle with ALS in February, and Pete Frates, the 29-year-old former BC baseball captain who is currently battling the disease and got the whole "Ice Bucket Challenge" started.

"I accept challenge on behalf of Dick Kelley, the Frates family and on behalf of ALS research," Mara said in his "Challenge" video the Giants' team website. "I hereby nominate (New York Jets owner) Woody Johnson, Robert Kraft and Bill Belichick to do the same."

The "Ice Bucket Challenge" is sweeping the nation, with thousands of people dumping a bucket of ice water over their heads to raise awareness of ALS. Belichick was challenged last week by 98.5 The Sports Hub hosts Toucher & Rich, but has yet to respond to the challenge.

Now we'll see if the coach accepts the second challenge from Mara.

Patriots receiver Julian Edelman took part in all the fun last week, and issued the challenge to teammates Danny Amendola, Rob Gronkowski and Tom Brady. That trio has yet to respond to Edelman's challenge.

Since the campaign got underway, there has been a huge surge in donations in the fight against ALS.
