Kraft Family Unveils September 11 Memorial Garden At Patriot Place
FOXBORO (CBS) – Steps away from the gates of Gillette Stadium now sits a new September 11 memorial garden.
Six trees were placed throughout the memorial representing all six New England states and at the base of each tree sits tribute stones with names of those that passed away during 9/11.
"Nobody will ever forget what they were doing at 8:47 a.m. a minute after the first plane went into the tower," Josh Kraft said.
The Kraft family held a dedication ceremony Thursday, alongside Patriots Super Bowl champion Joe Andruzzi, whose brother, a NYC firefighter, responded to the attacks 20 years ago.
"He was in tower one, one of the first responders in the morning and one of those running out when it was falling behind him, the images and getting through that week and a half was tough," Andruzzi said.
"I see Joe carrying the American flag and all the little flags. What a great moment that was," Robert Kraft said.
Also unveiled Thursday inside Patriot Place are two slabs of steel taken from the World Trade Center, representing the Twin Towers. They were dedicated to the Newburyport Fire Department.
On display outside Patriot Place was a 9/11 mural walking visitors through a timeline of the attacks.
"It's something that can't be forgotten, something our kids need to be taught. We don't want another 9/11 and it's not easy," Andruzzi said.
