Patrice Bergeron To Miss Bruins' Season Opener; Kevan Miller Undergoes Hand Surgery

BOSTON (CBS) -- The Bruins will kick off their season on Thursday night in Columbus, but they will do so without their most important player.

Patrice Bergeron will not be in uniform when the Bruins take on the Blue Jackets, the team announced Wednesday morning.

"Bergeron suffered a lower-body injury and is currently being evaluated on a day-to-day basis. He will not travel with the team to Columbus," the Bruins announced.

UPDATE: Head coach Claude Julien told CSNNE's Joe Haggerty that Bergeron's injury is "not a major injury ... it's a minor one." Julien would not rule out Bergeron re-joining the Bruins after Thursday's season opener in Columbus.

The team also announced that Adam McQuaid will not travel to Columbus due to an upper-body injury and that Kevan Miller underwent surgery to repair a fracture on his hand and will be out for six weeks.

The Bruins have recalled forward Tim Schaller from Providence.

Last season, Bergeron played in 80 games, scoring 32 goals and adding 36 assists. He's played in 444 out of a possible 458 games over the past six seasons.
