Painted Sections Of Boston's Freedom Trail Get New Look

BOSTON (CBS) – The historic spots on Boston's famed Freedom Trail remain the same but sections of the striping that forms the trail will have a whole new look.

Since the 1950s the trail has led visitors to 16 sites including Paul Revere's house, the Old North Church and Faneuil Hall.

The red painted trail has been replaced with a red, white, and blue-gray thermoplastic strip that will be applied with head through crosswalks and on the concrete sections of the painted trail throughout Downtown Crossing, Charlestown, and the North End.

City officials said the bricked areas of the Freedom Trail will not be replaced by the new striping project. The project will cost $50,000.

The old trail had to be repainted every year. City officials believe the new strips will last up to eight years.
