Red Sox 3B Pablo Sandoval To Undergo Surgery On Left Shoulder

BOSTON (CBS) – Red Sox third baseman Pablo Sandoval will undergo surgery on his left shoulder.

Sandoval has appeared in three games for Boston this season, and was 0-for-6 with a walk.

He was placed on the disabled list on April 13 with a left shoulder strain.

"The club will make comment and provide additional information about the surgery at the completion of the procedure," the Red Sox said in a statement.

The surgery will be performed in the coming days by Dr. James Andrews in Pensacola, Florida.

According to a Fox Sports report, Boston does not have an insurance policy on Sandoval and will not be able to recoup any of his salary. Sandoval is in the second year of a five-year, $95 million contract he signed with the Red Sox last winter.
