Opponents Weigh Referendum On Boston's 2024 Olympics Bid

BOSTON (AP) -- Opponents of bringing the 2024 Summer Olympics to Boston are weighing a voter referendum.

The group No Boston Olympics says it could pursue a question for the 2016 statewide election or the 2015 election in Boston. It's also considering legislative options to block the Games outright or improve the current proposal. Evan Falchuk, a failed 2014 gubernatorial candidate, formed a political organization Thursday supporting a statewide referendum.

Boston 2024 organizers aren't saying what they would do if voters rejected their bid in a non-binding vote. The U.S. Olympics Committee, which picked Boston over Los Angeles, San Francisco and Washington, D.C., has no plans of changing its chosen host city.

Berlin is holding a referendum on its 2024 bid. Hamburg, a rival for the German nomination, also is considering one.
